Goggle Eye / Warmouth
Paw Paw taught me to start fishing hot bluegill spots shallow and increase the depth as the bite cooled off. Once you started getting Goggle Eyes that means no more Bluegill left and move to the next spot.

The fish was correctly identified multiple times above as a warmouth aka goggle eye aka Lepomis gulosus.
A shell cracker is a red-eared sunfish, or Lepomis microlophus.
