Finding Bone During Blood Trailing

So my cousins little girl bloodied up a big buck this morning. We trailed it for probably 800 yards with no luck. Found a few pieces of bone the size of times and nickels
I have heard bones are most likely leg shots and wanted to gauge y'alls experiences.

All it means is a shoulder or leg got hit, doesn’t mean it isn’t lethal. I shot a deer last year that was quartering away. The front leg closest to me was back and the leg away from me was forward. Bullet went through both lower shoulders and the heart in the process. There was bone everywhere, everything from the shoulder blade down was shattered on both legs. If you’re finding that much bone the deer is probably dead, but no way to know for sure.

The bone wasn't at the shot site but 500 yds away

I wouldn’t read too much into it either way is all I’m trying to say. Don’t give up on it just cause there’s bone. Could have been a brisket shot that hit shoulder, upper leg hit that still hit vitals, etc.

Could be anything, the blood will tell you more. Smell it.
