Do figure 6 hog traps work good ? I think I am going to build one soon. Anyone out there with some experience or advice ?

They work Ok. You need to leave it wide open (3' gap) for a few weeks loaded up with corn/food. To let the pigs get used to going in and out of the trap. Then set the fence/gate with a 2-2.5' bar. Don't worry about a separate trip just put a lot of food behind that bar trip fence/gate. The pigs will trigger the bar just my rutting and eating behind that fence/gate panel.
They don't work as well as a drop door or spring loaded door though but they do work. I've never had a pig push through the 6 door after its tripped. I've heard they do but never seen it done on my cameras.

i made one 16' diameter and they went in immediately. I let this go one for a few weeks. I closed it and they never went in and wont even go back to it so i gave up on it. I also feed a few feeders year round so they most likely are not going to work for the food as long as im doing that. They come to the feeders nightly so i shoot a few a month with the thermal 300 blk. Way more for than trapping them

I think this is the secret. Use the traps in the off season when there's no other easy food source.

Yes the work, I've caught a lot of hogs with them. I pre-bait a spot and then build the trap around it and set it immediately and have had quick success like this. After the trap has been in place for a while, I usually bait it and check daily for a few days and if no fresh sign/tracks or if I don't catch pretty quick, I'll back off the trap for a week or so and check periodically and have had success like this as well.
Make sure and tie your panels to the t-posts very well and I use about 3-4 posts per panel.
You'll hear that once you kill in the trap hogs will avoid it - that's bullshite long term - they will avoid it for a while but not forever.
A function of catching is food availability. I find I do pretty well when the ground first gets hard in the spring when food pickings are slim before everything greens up. Also in the fall before acorn and pecans fall.

I’ll be following this thread. Hogs are just starting to show up on our property. Tried to go do some damage to em this past weekend. Put out a bag of corn at midnight and went back at 6am to sit over the bait. Was already wiped out. Safe to say I’m a hog hunting amateur.

the younger "yearlings" are usually easy to catch. Catch as many as possible then try and still hunt/dog hunt, etc. the smart ones. It's hard to get a mature hog in a trap but it is doable.
Trapping in general takes persistence and lots of patience - they will wear you out if you let them which is the reason I set my traps and don't come back for 10-14 days some times.
