Faux Finish on Concrete Patio/Pool deck Suggestions?

I'm re-doing my concrete pool deck. It has the textured "cool-crete" surface.
It's a pretty big spread of concrete, so I'd like to break it up with some color variations. Ideally, I'd like it to look like a a bed of pebbles with different colors.
Anybody tried a faux finish using a sponge or something like that? Any suggestions or experiences appreciated.
I've got a base coat down that I can live with, but want to experiment some.
