I've heard shrimpers carry bleach onboard with them so that when they get stuck they immerse the spot in bleach as soon as they can to kill any Vibrio if it's there. Scary to think what this stuff can do.
False. The bleach is for 2 things. 1) to help clean the boat. 2) if shrimp start turnning pink, one gallon of bleach to a 55 gallon drum of water mixed, one throws there "pink" shrimp in to bleach them white again.
Don't ask me how I know.

Never really heard of people using bleach. Have heard of sodium bisulfite (or comonly known in the bayou as shrimp powder) being used though with shrimpers.

Back in the day, bleach was around 40 cents a gallon when I used to shrimp were as ice was $3 a 100lbs. Then one only had X amount of space to put ice. One had to do what one had to do.
And yes, sodium was used too on bigger boats.
