Any duck/goose call collectors on this board? I don't know why but I love duck calls. Acrylics and woods with the different designs. I've got just a few and now want to add more to my collection.

I'd love to get a Weedy's Pin Oak and a Taylor Made but those are significant buys. I'd like to find a Shane Roten call too. As I remember it, he had a real nice sounding double reed call. I think he's from the Ruston area but might not be making calls anymore.

I use to work the Duck Call tent at the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest so I got to meet a bunch of the call makers. Some of those guys have passed away now or are out of the business. Should of been buying back then but didn't have the funds at that time.

Anybody else like to collect different duck/goose calls?

I am waiting to hear back on Taylormade availability status, will let you know when I hear. Might be a bust..

ETA: My uncle said the best you could do out of his area right now is $725 range for an old wooden Taylor Made

You ever meet Greg Keats?
I dealt with Greg about 10 yrs ago. He was the biggest a hole I have ever dealt with.

Yes, I've seen Taylor Made calls offered for about $625.00 and up. Weedy's calls are in the same price range. I'd love to own those two but I'm not parting with $1,300 right now. Maybe someday, but not today.

highcotton2, I've met Greg Keats before but can't remember him as being an arse. He might have been, but I just don't remember him that way. There were some of those guys who certainly were assholes, especially if they weren't selling enough calls to pay for their trip to Stuttgart. Most of the time, I figured they were griping at me for this reason.

I did meet some good call makers from Alabama.
- David Gaston, Gaston Custom Calls in Thomasville
- Steve Cook of Giden Calls in Hartselle (not sure if he's still making calls)
- Bob Warden of Twin Oak Calls in Florence (not sure about his current status either)
- Joe Pirtle, Old Smooth Calls in Decatur (again, not sure if he's still making calls).

Yeah, I have too many. You want to buy them? A few Lares calls (two A5's, two Hybrids), a RNT MVP and one Echo XLT.

I've got a few. That addiction is as bad as crack but more expensive.

Question on the Lares, their site says their calls have no cork, a spit ejector system and will never stick.

I couldn't find a real good picture of their insert to see what all this looks like. Has your Lares stuck?

Do the O rings slip around or is the fit as snug as they claim?

I've got a couple RNT's. My green acrylic came from Butch's old shop and was the first nice call I ever bought. Probably bought around 1997. Then I bought a Burnt bois d'arc from RNT's current location. Love the look, but not fond of the function of the call. Moisture causes it the bois d'arc to swell and you can't get it apart.

I have two Gaston calls and they are both great. Also really like my Wayne Betts call.
I have made a few calls for my own use and when I was trying to learn I called up Butch Richenback. He didn't know me from Jack but he still talked to me on the phone for an hour about everything from making calls to growing soybeans.
He really was a top notch individual and will be greatly missed.

Betts makes a quality call. He was one of the only custom call exhibitors we had that would also have callers entered in the competition.

Call competition was/is dominated by RNT and Echo. The contest would get to Wayne but I enjoyed visiting with him otherwise.

Butch was something when he was pissed off and telling the world how to correct its problems. I was around him the most on the Legion baseball committee. He was the coach.

Butch could be cranky, but he never let that get in the way of helping people, regardless of who you were.

He was at his best when he was teaching kids how to call.

Post a pic of the calls you've made. I'd like to see em. One day, I'm gonna get a lathe and a good jig and try my hand at some. No big goal in mind, I just want to turn some calls.

I have not made a call in 15 years but here are a few I still have around.

This is a goose call I made.

It's a snug fit on the Lares, yes, and they won't stick for me. I've hunted a hybrid and T1. The insert is not going to just fall out of the call with the o ring fit. The calls operate a little differently than an RNT and Echo, but once you get it down man I prefer the Lares to every RNT I've tried. And I've had short barrels, daisy cutters, old style, and an MVP. Got the one Echo XLT, had a Timber before, but I just don't like the sounfpd of an Echo, never have and have friends that have had them since the mid 90's.

The Lares call is sort of like a Haydel with a tone board, plastic wedge, reed and exhaust barrel. Tone board, reed and wedge fit tight in the exhaust barrel, and Lares has different length reeds to put in the call. Google probably has some pics. I've bought mine used on various forums.

And had a Betts, too, didn't care much for those, either.

Nice looking calls highcotton. Couple different barrel styles and they all look nice.

White Bear, thanks for the info. I wasn't familiar with the Lares calls and it's features. I need to find a sound file on these calls.

There is a guy in Shreveport that owns Eason's Cajun Calls. I don't know him but I've just come across his calls and he is producing some awesome looking products. He caps calls with different woods or antler bone and he's also infusing acrylic with woods. His craftsmanship looks impressive.

Wasn't much for collecting baseball cards or comic books when I was growing up. I had them but had no desire to search and get more. Never collected stamps or searched for rare coins.

You're right about the addiction, I've wanted to collect duck calls from the time I learned how to call. I still have the first Faulk's call that my dad gave me back in the late 70s. I screwed up the reed on it when I was young, but I never wanted to throw it away.

All of this.

Had to completely change the way I run a call to get my T1 sounding right. Once you get it though

Not a big fan of these calls that have been etched to look like an Affliction t-shirt.

I like simple looks, clean designs on barrels and inserts and classic looking logos. That's just my style.

Doubt I'll go for one of those calls with aggressive logos and etchings.

Sound pretty good on dude's facebook soundfile. somb's aren't scared to publicize where they hunt, or where I think they hunt.
