When do you burn your millet? How many weeks before?

When do you sow wheat? I know this will start a shite storm, remember some states allow you to top sow wheat.

Some of my millet is mature, is it to early to burn it?

Check with the DWF. Burn it and let it sit . Start replanting every week. Be sure plow it under the afternoon before opening day

We are able to top sow wheat, up to 90 lbs an acre.

I think baiting dove should be legal. They aren't exactly endangered. When I run for governor of Georgia after the collapse, I will legalize dove field baiting and get rid of this charade of agricultural practice. It's absurd.

I believe the avg lifespan of a dove is less than a year anyways. As long as you follow the limit, why does it matter if you toss out 500 lbs of sunflowers vs spend a months paycheck planting them and keeping weeds and deer out of them?

I bet that’s a barrel burner. We aren’t allowed to do it here in Georgia but I have seen the results of it when done by people who just don’t give a damn.

I didn’t plant millet this year so I’m going to sow wheat. I’m in SW MS, so as long as I do this within the oarametersnod “normal planting practice”, I’m good.

This means 100#/acre top sowed, all at one time. If green Kean’s sees sprouted wheat and freshly sowed unsprouted wheat, he’s likely writing tickets.

Our season opens Sunday, so poppers on the grill for the game ??

Well when everybody does it, and you have freshly cut corn fields the doves usually are scattered.

Few years ago I had some planted wheat that we bushhogged first of August, next to it we top sowed wheat a week before the hunt... It definately looked suspect, but by the book.

More importantly, did it draw birds?

If you have millet seeded out already, don't touch it. You get enough release from wind and them landing in it to keep em for months. Been doing it for years this way and it works 100% of the time, and we hunt it throughout the fall and winter.

Worst year we had was when we clipped it before the hunt. One rain and we had no food and no birds. Will never clip or turn millet under in a dove field again.

Do you have issues finding doves that are shot in it? We are not using dogs, and this millet is knee to waist high in places.

Nope, actually harder to find when you have windrows and clumps of clipped grass all over the field. Now we have cut a strip under the powerline to help "mark" where they fall. Perfectly legal to maintain power companies right of way.

It basically is legal. You just have to grow the plant to get seed instead of throwing it out.

It’s 100% a revenue law to make money. They don’t actually care about the bird populations. If everyone grew sunflowers and millet each year they would change the law where you couldn’t do that just to continue making money off tickets. The entire system is corrupt

It is a antiquated law going back to market hunting. They need to draw up new laws for the migratory bird act to go by, as the laws were written for early 1900's

Yep. It’s totally normal to plant winter wheat in August
