This thread took an interesting track.

Only place off the top of my head I know you can drive on is Elmers Island. I remember driving on Fourchon when I was young, but not in years.
I am not advocating for Louisiana's right to drive on the beach, so much that I am calling out the power grab by the federal government.
NPS won't allow us to walk on certain parts of Hatteras as well.
The island's economy is based on three types of tourism:
Beach goers
Gulf Stream Fishers
Shore Surf fishers (more of these than Gulf Streamers)
So there are hundreds on the island that based their business there, but now cannot be supported....over a bird.
This bird needs 75 yards of space, but NPS still has blocked off accesses.
You begin to think that is more about Audobon's initial push for no people on the beach.....except of course, for their birdwatchers.
First it's vehicle prohibition, then making people altogether not allowed on the beaches.
Furthermore an economy will go down the tubes without any say so......ps, I don't own a business there.
It's just a gripe that the federal government thinks it knows what's best for everything....but all they ever do is frik up.

Some company owns the land, and put pilings up to block people from driving on the beach. It has been quite a few years since that was allowed.

Do like Grand Isle. Demand beach access, so they can build public parking lots and dune crossovers every 1/2 mile or so. That preserves the access and saves the beach habitat and species. You can fish and access the beach without driving your car right up to the surf.

shite like this kills me
Let's protect some stupid bird, meanwhile.. a federally protected blue heron is killing the fish in my pond just because he sees them as competition for his food
GDBH

frick a GDBH, I hate those frickers.. I spent halftime of the Arkansas game and part of the second half waiting for one of those frickers to fly back over and give me a shot.. he didn't come back that day though

Wait, the heron is killing fish to prevent competition? Not to eat them?! Does he toss them up on the bank like a hardhead on the Grand Isle pier? Damn, this is waaaay worse than those evil otters eating all the fish in someone's private pond.

They do make an obnoxious sound.

Hell yeah they do!
I can't tell you how many beautiful rainbow trout those frickers have slain just to be dicks..
Now, my dad who is a vet and his best bud who is a game biologist argue over the fact of whether they do it to kill competition or they are stupid enough to think they can fit a 7-8lb rainbow down their throat

The only time I ever hear them make a sound is the thud from when they come crashing to earth..
*JUST KIDDING, I know it is illegal to ii federally protected birds like the GDBH

they can choke down some pretty big fish. I've seen some large bream go down their gullets. pretty sure they only do it to eat though. perhaps their eyes are bigger than their stomachs...or at least their throats.
Speaking of, once saw a brown pelican attempt to eat a 14" redfish by Elmer's Island. It may have gotten the best of him in the end.
