I've never seen them eat pecans, but found a spot in BCNWR with lots of pecans, few oaks, and a bunch of deer shite. Place needs an east wind to hunt, which is rare, so I only have hunted it once. Saw nothing. May need to just risk it during the rut. I would think if they eat acorns, pecans would be viable, especially after to acorns are gone, but BCNWR produces so much mast it rarely is all gone.

They had a piece in last months La Sportsman. They do eat pecans, but swallow them whole and later regurgitate them and then chew them.. I guess whatever enzymes they have in the stomach soften them up.
