Ok, I know we have a couple of divers who post here and are from Austin. I see ScubaBlake is online, so apparently not him.

Why I always carry a rescue tube, beacon, and whistle.

And no, not me.

How the hell do you just leave two divers behind? Did he forget them or something?

Imagine how much more shite he would be in if they weren't found. He should consider himself lucky to just lose business
You can't run a charter business and let things like that happen.

You would think someone would have come up with a fool proof idea by now. I got an idea.....when the captiain parks he needs to put his key in a lock box that can only be opened up all the divers simultaneously who have their own key that is secured in a very good way to their suit.

Kind of like in war movies where you need two keys to activate something....

Or, like a list, with the names of the divers and a box next to it. When the divers are back on the boat, check the box.

Problem solved.

what happens if a diver nerver surfaces and is lost at sea? how do you now protect the remainder of the divers from possible weather conditions, how do you manuver the boat to any stray diver in the event they get swept away in a current?

A simple head count worked well in kindergarten why not on a boat?

Lol......it was just an idea, one that I didn't declare to be covering all bases. Ok, so there needs to be one of those don't break in case of emergency things on board

Not a diver and don't claim to have any knowledge on it but there seem to be too many of these types of accidents. Counting heads is obviously not full proof.

To the divers on here.....is it typically just a head count when you dive on a guided trip?

Yeah, it's a headcount. Most charters only have a 6-pack license, so they can only take out 6 customers. They might have a deck hand or dive master on board, so at best they are counting to 8 or 9. Maybe this was a bigger boat but still no excuse.....the captain just got lazy. Same thing happened in Australia to that couple from Baton Rouge, only they didn't realize they had left them until the next day i believe, very tragic accident that changed the Australian dive industry forever.

Indeed, I'm surprised more people in the diving community here don't know about this...

C'mon man, it's Fla., that's too complicated. It takes them 3 months to get an election right, they screw up jury trials and I think every 3rd person is a child molester.

Thought it was Texas?
