I just got a 1995 MF 231 back in good running shape after letting it sit up some and not running it much for the past 2-3 years. Anyone use a diesel additive in their tractor?

TIA

Lots of people put lots of crap in their tractors. Its not necessary unless it will sit up for long periods (months), than an algecide is a good idea.

If it runs fine now, just keep on running it. If you'll be running it alot, you can slowly mix in your used motor oil just to get rid of it.

It ran good today. I’ll run it again tomorrow some more.

The best thing you Can add is a drain valve so if it is gonna sit you can drain the fuel out easily diesel does some funky stuff while is sits.

This and change oils and filters as needed. Now if you live way up north, then at is different. They use a thin out diesel up north.

On my older JD990 I add a bottle of 2 stroke oil to each tank. Since they removed the sulfur (lubricant) from diesel my tractor wasn't designed to run on low sulfur diesel. I did this per my local pump shop recommendations.

This is ok on non-dpf equipped tractors. You can also use motor oil.

I dont think its completely necessary. While your tractor wasn't designed for low Sulphur diesel, the fuel system runs at relatively low pressure and they're very robust. Odds are your fuel pump and injectors will outlive the fenders rusting off with no help.

The main thing anybody can do is keep water out the fuel pump. Drain your separator religiously, and drain your tank if its been sitting a while as well. Water and plugged filters are the only way you can hurt a diesel fuel system.
