Coyote trap preparation

Just ordered some traps to start trying to reduce the yote problem (Duke OS-550). Reading and watching videos some guys are big into dying and waxing the traps including stripping the oil off of brand new traps with muriatic acid. Others say just vinegar and water is sufficient. Not really interested in messing with acid if I don't have to.
Any opinions?

How about leave the coyotes alone.

when I went to a trapping class but on by game and fish, one professional trapper said to use vinegar or just boiling water, the other said he used degreaser from the dollar store. Both used trap dye afterwards.

Find walnut tree
Get bark and walnuts
Dump in pot of water, drop traps in and boil them
This will take all the oils out, and dye traps blacks
Then dip in hot wax. Simple really

Boil them with vinegar and make sure after you have boiled them for a few minutes to let the pot boil over so all the film on top boils out of the pot. You don't want to pull your traps out through that gunk.
You don't have to dye coyote traps but you will need to wax them pretty quick before they start to rust.
Store them when you are done in a plastic tote with a couple hand fulls of oak leaves. They will smell just like the woods.

Old guy that showed me how to trap coyotes used Speed Dip.It’s a concentrate you mix with Coleman fuel -white gas.He boiled them first.
It’s not easy to trap coyotes,I had better luck with snares. He wanted them alive because he sold them to fox pens.

To get oil off run through the dishwasher.
I wouldn't dye a new trap but I do recommend waxing them. The speed dip is good but the smell lingers long enough you might want to wait and do it this summer.
With new traps I would recommend upping the pan tension to the 4# range. Saves a lot of possum and coon catch.

Good luck. The single one I managed to catch was by putting the trap under leaves a foot or so in front of bait. They are very smart.
