I got popped by the same kind about 5 years ago on my hand. The skin where the thing got me fell off and it felt like a burning sensation for about two days! frick those things!

I stepped on one of those bastards while barefooted as a kid...that thing fricked my world up and left a caterpillar-shaped scar in the arch of my foot that stayed there for about a decade...

Those things will get into your corn patch, too. We just call em "packsaddles". Yeah, they'll light you up for sure.

Found this link to "stinging packsaddles". The OP's picture example is in here, too. We just call all of these stinging critters a "packsaddle" even when they don't have that distinctive saddle on their back. No need to get technical when one gets on you! Just teach the younguns not to touch any of em...

I gotta admit...those moths are beautiful. We get a lot of the Luna Moths here, too. See em on the porch windows after dark. Just always called em "swallowtails". Now if I could just keep those cutworms off my maters...
