I stepped on one of those bastards while barefooted as a kid...that thing fricked my world up and left a caterpillar-shaped scar in the arch of my foot that stayed there for about a decade...

I may have just decided to hate caterpillars more than spiders.
Or equally.
Yea, equally.

That thing looks like something from the amazon.
Do those things turn into butterflies? It would be the butterfly from Hell.

Those things will get into your corn patch, too. We just call em "packsaddles". Yeah, they'll light you up for sure.

Found this link to "stinging packsaddles". The OP's picture example is in here, too. We just call all of these stinging critters a "packsaddle" even when they don't have that distinctive saddle on their back. No need to get technical when one gets on you! Just teach the younguns not to touch any of em...

It ranges from the southeast corner of Manitoba and in the southern extremes of Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick in Canada, and in the US it is found from Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, east of those states and down to the southern end of Florida

I gotta admit...those moths are beautiful. We get a lot of the Luna Moths here, too. See em on the porch windows after dark. Just always called em "swallowtails". Now if I could just keep those cutworms off my maters...
