I want to get a gun safe to put in my trunk that I can drop my pistol in when I go somewhere I can't carry it. I'm looking for something that will tolerate being in a trunk during South Louisiana summers, has security cables to allow me to tie it off to the car's structure, and has a keyless entry option.

I figured you guys probably have some suggestions, so ideas are much appreciated!

ETA: Safe might be the wrong word. I'm not looking for a large box. Just a small locking thing that will hold a pistol and maybe a magazine or two.

It has to go in the trunk? Bc there are lockboxes that attach under the car seat.

Would be a PITA to always have to go to the trunk.

Assuming you are talking about a car with an actual trunk, doesn't a trunk itself fit the description of what you are looking for. Metal box, lockable, attached to the car, holds up to heat, keyless entry. A trunk and a dinky biometric "gun safe" are about equally secure.

I don't want it in the passenger cabin where it might slide a bit and be visible. My trunk isn't a PITA. My car uses an RFID key fob, so I just walk up to the back of the car and push a hidden button and the trunk pops open if the keyfob is within 5 feet of the car.

Yep. I'm currently just dropping my pistol in the trunk and then retrieving it when I'm done, but there's nothing to keep my pistol from sliding around and banging into things in there, though. I want to get something a little more robust in case I ever need to move with the pistol in there. The security features are kind of secondary. Maybe I'll just drop a Pelican Vault in there and be done with it. I can always throw a couple of padlocks on the Vault if I need security outside the trunk.

Yeah, that'll work. Or, did it come in a plastic case?

They did, but I don't carry the same pistol every day, so I need something that isn't model specific.

I bought 1 of those black boxes with the plastic-covered twisted-wire cord-style tether. My car got broken into 1 night, and it was pretty clear that the guy brought his standard burglar tools with him, because all I found was a cut tether. Happy to say that the thief only got an empty box.

If I ever were to replace, it would be a box that bolted down through the floor into the frame or other more secure attachment. If they want what's in there, they are going to have to get it out of the box right there, not be able to take at home with them to open at their leisure
