Camp work weekends

Just got home from ours.
No show fee is $100 penalty.
I was at $396 when I left the tire shop in my hometown for my utility trailer. Ha!
7 hours one way.
I told them I’m not renewing after this year. Club dues are going up but it’s still incredibly affordable and I’m not getting out because of that. It’s just that it’s so far and the quality of the experience isn’t the same as it used to be.
I started taking my son when he was only seven years old and now he’s 20. He spent a great many years, killing deer and hogs. Many campfires and many great meals.
I think it’s just time to turn the page and really didn’t see this coming this weekend.
I knew change was inevitable, but still feels odd to walk away.
Anyway, cheers to deer camp, fellas! May you always enjoy it!

7 hours away is too far to be practical, IMO. I am in a duck club in Louisiana that is about 6 hours from me and I am starting to feel the same way.

1.5 hours is all I’ll do now in my fifties. 25 years ago, time and distance wasn’t a deterrent.

7 hours away or pay $100? I am paying that all day long. And i have a small camp that i work on constantly.
Sounds like you got out of it what you wanted…memories with your son. I would start looking for a closer club and/or property to purchase. You will grandkids before you know it, and they need to learn the outdoors!
Good luck!
