Although it's been more than 20 years ago, my ex-father-in-law from Chalmette still used the old terms for both the lake and the "goose".

Thats what I learned it as, I didnt know it was a cormorant till i was older

That shite burns like gasoline That flowton was like walking on a water bed. At least ours had about a 4' bottom. I have heard stories of people going under.

Exactly!

I used to love when we bring someone from somewhere else hunting and we'd tell them "stay in the boat, you wont be able to walk this" and they'd laugh. A few seconds later they'd try it and they were sunk to their chest

EVERYTIME!


It takes time to learn to walk it right


ETA: my dad taught me to wait till the deer was along the "tranos" (spl?) and shoot him in the shoulder there. and roll him into the mudboat

you got that right. I always told people not to shoot unless it was worth getting wet over. You learn what types of grass to step on and to walk very flat and light. A guy we know even made some tiny pirogues for his feet to walk the marsh out by lake penchant.
