Building a dock....

I live on a small lake in NE Mississippi. I have a dock but would like to extend it and add a small 4-6 post boat house with a basic metal roof... I can't do this now but would like to over the next year to 18 months. Just wondering if you guys have done anything like this? I will definitely need to hire it out. Is it $100 a post, $1500? I am just starting to put it together financially and would love to know if anybody else had experience in this....

The cost is going to be specific to your location, you are going to have to get quotes.

In North Alabama a couple of years ago it was $10.00 a foot for 4" metal post driven. And they drive them until they hit bedrock.

What are the pros and cons of floating versus posting?

I would do some research on Marine grade Lumbar for Piers and boat houses. Ask your contractor for a materials list. See if you can buy some heavy duty marine grade stuff yourself and have it trucked in. What he may sell you is a local marine grade but not as heavy duty as you want! Depends on how long you want this to last
