Have an old bream trap that was laying around my grandfather's camp that I scooped up and want to try it this weekend. Any advice for the best bait to use in it?

ETA

More importantly, is it even legal?

Dog food and I wouldn't recommend transporting them to a lake. That's probably not going to be looked upon kindly if you get stopped.
