Just got a job that allows me to have a lot of time off. Planning on doing some bow hunting on a WMA this year any suggestions? I live in Baton Rouge. I’ve never scouted or hunted on public in Louisiana

All of the WMAs near BR have plenty of deer and all have plenty of hunters. Just need time with boots on the ground and decide what type of terrain you'd like to hunt:

- Swamp wearing hip boots - Head to Joyce or Pearl River
- Low wetlands, bottoms with hardwoods and sloughs with cypress - hunt Indian Bayou or Serburne
- Hills - hunt Tunica Hills

You'll hear from a lot of people that there are too many hunters, blah blah blah but I've killed deer on public land in multiple states with "high" pressure (including Louisiana). You just have to go where other people aren't, or use that pressure to your advantage.

I hunt Hutchinson Creek north of Hammond and west of Amite. It’s smallish and is a bow hunt only place. Hunted there last year and saw deer but no luck. Got some pretty heavy cover in areas but all walkable.

Do a lot of people hunt this? I'm in Hammond and wanted to check that place out but never have.

I mean I’ve seen people there before but not insanely so. Friday’s I’m usually out there by myself.

Joyce can be an absolute mother father to hunt. I wouldn’t start there
