There is a lot ignorance posted in this thread. All predator numbers need to be kept in check. You would be ready to fight someone if you caught them on your land killing your game or pets. But out of ignorance you put TIGER984 down for killing a bobcat. They are the mass murders of the game world. Everything can be their meal. Coyotes, bobcats and fox kill more game than any poacher would.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit that a fox would kill a fawn given the opportunity.

A couple of weeks ago, I took this pic of a bobcat in a neighbor's yard in a Dallas suburb. They keep the rabbits in check. No one bothers them and they don't bother anyone.

I'm sure they would
baby animals get eaten all the time, it's natures way

nobody is "putting down" the OP. if you are trying to manage wildlife on your land then by all means, do what you have to do. the turkey example for instance is a good one

if you aren't though, it's generally best to leave the predators alone unless they are causing a nuisance or directly competing with you for a particular prey opportunity

I don't think anybody here is upset he shot a bobcat. Most people just said they don't normally shoot them. If one was in my yard messing with my pets I would not think twice about shooting it.
The part people thought was odd was the op saying it was not 10' from where his kids sometime play. Implying that it would attack his kids. Which it might if it had rabies, but that would be the only circumstance. Far more likely to be bitten by a rabid coon than a bobcat.
