I took my Certificate of Title (registered in Mississippi) to the Louisiana Fish & Game office today to register my boat. It is a copy since the boat is still being paid for and the original title is held by the lein holder.

They wouldn’t accept the copy. Said I needed the original title to register the boat. Didn’t really explain how I’m supposed to get it since the boat is being paid for.

I did call the lein holder and explained the situation, but they aren’t sending me the original title until the boat is paid for.

Anyone have experience with this?

I just want to fish.

Could be wrong but I think you can take the copy to a notary and have them stamp it and that will work.

Who originally had the bot registered in Mississippi?

If it was the original seller, did the bank you finance with cut them a check?

I bought the boat at Bass Pro in Jackson. So, yes, I guess.

If you bought a boat from a dealer they should take care of the paperwork. All I've ever done is wait for the registration (along with the trailer lic) to come in the mail.

I bought the boat in Mississippi...a few years ago.

Recently moved to LA. Trying to get the boat registered.

LDWF is not accepting the paperwork (title copy) issued by MS.

They want the original title. Which is held by the lien holder.

From my last finance deal, the bank sent the original title along with my registration paperwork via mail to LDWF, was a mild PITA since the bank is out of Mississippi & they have different requirements there but it got handled after a few phone calls/emails.

Coordinate with your financier to have them send in the paperwork on your behalf.

Thanks, man. I was afraid of that. My financier is in California.

Mild pita doesn’t cover it.

I’m glad someone gave you a solution. It’s a royal pain in the arse due to all the different laws in each state.

Boat registration in La is a royal PITA. Still trying to satisfy W&F over a year later. Make sure you have a notarized Bill of Sale.
