Big Lake water condition?

I have to make a day trip to Lake Charles tomorrow and I'm trying to decide if I want to drag my boat. If I want to fish I will have to leave Houston around 4 AM. I can fish till noon to 1 before I have to get off the water and take care of business. This decision use to be a no-brainer, I would fish. But at 68 years old, I have to pick my battles. So my question is, what does the lake look like right now? I don't mind marginal conditions but I don't want to fish chocolate milk either. I know things were looking pretty good on Big Lake recently, has this weather messed all that up? Any help would be appreciated.
I know 6 hours of fishing sounds like a bad idea, but I grew up on Big Lake and any chance to fish my old stomping grounds is an opportunity I'm hesitant to pass on at this time in my life. May not be that many opportunities left in the bank...

I would say marginal is probably what everything looks like. I can't tell on the satellite image from yesterday due to clouds. Hopefully Kemo or some who lives down that way can chime in. I am trying to decide if I want to go this weekend or not.

Go fish, morning bite is dead by 9 am anyway but you could find a set picking after that.
kemosabe65@yahoo.com for the starting spot.
WinoCrawfish, you better get as much in as possible now.

I'd say give it a shot. Fishing is typically better than not fishing, IMO.

Good enough! Just needed a little push. I'm fishing

Water in The south end is stained (am) but a couple tides and it will clean up. Fish are on the reefs, I like opening night on 1/8 head if it’s not windy or 1/4 if it is.

Fishing now under the lights, water is still very muddy. 1 flounder in 4 hours. Give it a shot but don’t go with high expectations

That water has been pouring out at night. Makes sense.

Water is stained up to south turners but fishable. Finished with 28 and my guys wanted reds so we bugged out. Back at barn for noon cleaning fish and drinking a cold one. Saturday should be better.

Should have listened closer to KemoSabe65. I have a special love for West Cove and needed to run some old fuel out of my boat. So West Cove it was. Cove was full of boats. Ended up with one 16" speck and a nice flounder. Set up on two groups of birds and both times had boats blow into the fish with their big motor before I could make two casts. I don't think either boat had a clue what they had done wrong. Looked puzzled when they started casting and didn't stick fish. Really would have enjoyed giving them some friendly coaching on how to approach the birds, but they both made 5 or 6 casts, cranked up and left.
Had a great time though. Met a nice couple with a power pole stuck down in Oyster Bayou. Helped them get out of a bind. That's always a plus. It was a nice morning so well worth the trip.

You can fix those folks TH, usually they know it all and have zero concept of the word courtesy. Had to wave a tin boat off Friday morning that would’ve driven over me but he did see us catching fish so he wanted to get close. Ended up drifting down my port side and cranking up next to my second boat since there weren’t any fish there.
Send me an email next trip over and I’ll send you in the right direction.

Thanks! Will do. I didn't pick up on you sending me your email until 3AM the morning I left for Big Lake or I would have checked with you this time. I thought about emailing you that morning but figured you had enough going on just getting ready for your trip.
And you're right. Trying to teach people fishing technique is hard enough. Trying to teach them fishing etiquette is hopeless. These poor guys looked like a pack of blind dogs in a meat packing plant. They were desperate to catch a fish but had no clue how to go about it.
