Give me some suggestions. Once it cools some, I plan to do some light backpacking and camping with the kids. They are fairly young.
Thanks

Many places on the Wild Azalea trail to park and walk just a mile or two and camp. Good beginner backpacking. Bring a water filter and camp close to a creek. Just let the kids play for a day. Normally don’t see many others.

Before I go to the google for answers, are their campsites with fire rings or can you make your own spot?

Kisatchie near Natchitoches whenever they open they open the campgrounds. Hike the longleaf vista trail then go play at Kisatchie falls. There is a natural spring coming out of a hillside pitcher plant bog that has a pipe coming out of it that you can fill up water bottles that’s cool also.

Kisatchie Bayou campground. It connects to the Caroline Dormon trail if you want to do some hiking. It’s a great campsite and the kids can play in the clear water.
If you’d rather hike to the campsite then Backbone trail is a good one. You can park at the trailhead and it’s a few miles to a great campsite on top of a tall bluff.

You can camp anywhere along the trail. You will see some old campsites with fire rings already. I’ll try to use that if near rather than make a new spot.
The hiking is easy. Wait until it’s cooler. There are maps online or if you can use caltopo the trail is mapped on it.

I've actually done the backbone. Been a while. Forgot about that.

What part of the state?
