Anything else is a guessing game especially when it comes to ph. My feed and seed explained it to me, that you'll have to use an inordinate amount of something like nitrogen, if the ph is considerably out of balance/range.

BTW: A cheap (big box store) ph test is not reliable, especially with moisture laden soil and a send away test is usually fairly cheap. My local store did it for free, but I use them for purchases, as does most hunters and farmers around here.

While soybeans and clover will fix nitrogen most food plots are in areas that have not had legumes in the past so Rhizobium bacteria is not present. It is very important to inoculate clover and soybeans seeds that are going into fresh ground. Without this bacteria there will be no nitrogen fixation.
