Are you sure? I know in TN we had a record number of days over 90 last summer, or at least more than in close to 100 years. We also had one of the harshest winters in a LONG time.

It seems that way. The few past years we had several 90+ degree days in mid-late October. And it seems when I was younger, it was consistently in the mid 70's by my birthday (mid March), now it's more like early-mid April.
