If it's only for doves/ducks, you won't shoot it enough to worry about the A5 not being gas operated.
For any additional use (skeet, sporting clays, etc.), or if you shoot a lot of 3.5" loads, you're gonna wish you had picked the A400.
The A400 is easy to disassemble & clean. I make sure I clean mine after a few thousand rounds (2000-2500). I'm lazy). The A400's just don't get dirty like my old 391's (unless you drop it in the mud, or something).
