is this to make a ghost gun?
yes

It's a gun that you buy where the machining is 80% complete and you finish off the machine work and assemble it. There is no 4473 completed to buy it since it is not a technically a firearm

How much is the frame itself for this project?
New G19 Gen4/Gen5 is what, $400?

G19X was $515 +tax and G19 was $385 +tax... but that was blue label price from what I checked.

That definitely not regular pricing.

I’m not military or LE so none of those deals for me.

How much machine work? Can a gunsmith do this? Is it a significant savings? Sorry, have not heard of this before

Well, on the "glock" the frame is plastic (er, composite), so not really "machining" per say but there is some drilling/routing and fitting.
The back rail is the part that took me the longest on mine. I had to use some small files to get the fit correct. May need just a touch more actually.
Now on the 80% AR, you will need a jig and a router to get it done. You have to rout out the area where the trigger control goes and then drill the holes for the safety, and trigger pins.
I actually thought the AR was a little easier.

Yeah, “ghost guns” shoot a 30 magazine clip in half a second with their ability to shoot full semi-automatic.
