When I was in high school, I operated one of the older bobcat mini excavator (the ones before the E series). You could suprisingly move a good bit of earth with these things, but if you have to move around a lot, they are painfully slow.
I also found that operating on Cat controls, I could never operate any machines with a different control system. Just something to take note of, and if you spend enough time doing I'm sure you will have no problem adjusting.

My cousin rented a mini ex and our friend who is a heavy equipment operator didn't like the controls setup. It was less than a 5 minute job to reverse the setup to his liking.
