Debating on changing out my spark plugs myself or taking it in to have it done. I'm not overly confident when it comes to correctly gapping the plugs.

Any OB baws do this and have some advice?

I do. Suzuki and Yamaha both have a maintenance kit with everything you need. If you don't feel comfortable gapping plugs then just leave it alone.

If youve gotta Ficht or E-Tec ya have to index the plugs, no big deal.

Gapping is no big deal at all. Just dont overtighten the new ones, and use the same plugs that were in there.

If I can do it, then you can. I bought my plugs at Auto Zone & asked them to gap them. If you can borrow a torque wrench that would be even be better for peace of mind when installing the new ones. Obviously you have to know what ft lbs of torque is needed for your motor.

Yes, I do my own plugs, oil, lower unit oil, and all filters on a Yamaha. It really is no big deal if you are only somewhat mechanically inclined. As was previously said, if you are not comfortable gapping the plugs, just ask them to do it for you at the store. Just be advised, it can be a little messy with the oil and lower unit. You may want to put a piece of cardboard or something under the motor for when it drips.

Buy a $1.99 plug gauge at the parts store.

Hand tight the plugs, plus a quarter turn with wrench.

No worries.
