some matched score based on "power factor". I'm guessing that is what he is referring to when he said a .40 scores better.

PF = (bullet weight(gr) x velocity(fps))/1000

That is correct for USPSA. All 9mm is classified as minor and .40 and up is classified as major. You can see where it would be beneficial to be in major.

I thought the X5 magazines were physically too long to use in production.

Not for steel challenge, I just can only load 10 rounds in a mag. Their is a match that the 21 round mags would be too long for.
