Taking the family up there in a few weeks and wondering what parts of the lake are good to fish and what should we be fishing for this time of year?

It gets shallow real quick in some spots, so if you're boating be careful.

There are a lot of cypress trees in the back right that were flooded when they built the lake. You can perch jerk all day out there, it's great for kids to have fun. My old man lives on the lake.

I've got a pro-drive so shallow water isn't too much of an issue. Thanks for the advice

The lake can get dangerously shallow, even near the 'ski area.' Keep an eye on the wind break bank out close the the middle.

Unfortunately they pretty much killed the grass. The days of slamming 'em on top waters around the docks with grass are long gone.

Now you have to go find structure around or in ledges. There are two deep holes on the lake. One near the marina on the north east end. The other in the cove with all the houses.

Fishing around the Marina is popular and you will more than likely be dodging perch jerkers. Feel free to go fish around Francis Thompson's dock. He'll come out and get mad at you for fishing around water he thinks he owns. Just give him the double bird and ask him if his brother has forgiven him for putting him in jail.

Fishing in the cove with all the houses is usually one of the best spots on the lake. Deep ledge runs along the right hand side. Dock owners are pretty friendly over there.

Close to the state park launch, my dad lives in a white house with a pool in the back yard. Out off his back sea wall, there is a felled tree, laying on its side, about 30 yards out. I've caught some big bass off that tree, and up and down that bank. You can catch catfish as well (obviously), which your kids would have fun tearing up.

I know you said your boat is a pro-drive, but I want to reiterate to be careful... it gets super dangerously shallow in some areas, so don't be in a hurry and enjoy the good weather!

No. That's not me.

I fished PP a lot the first several years after it opened. I probably only fish it 4-5 times a year now.

Ah well, if you go and look at the top 10 white crappie there are a few top 10 fish from poverty point by the same guy. He smokes them there.
