It’s hot right now in Madison County.
Well that’s promising - according to the average breeding date map the rut should be over there. Same map says it should be winding down in SW Miss.

Where i hunt in pike co ms i killed 8pt chasing hard with a 6pt dec 19th. Ive been several times after cmas. Every day last week.. and not seen a single deer chasing. I will see a random buck crossing pipeline. Hardly seeing ANY does anymore as i was seeing 15 every hunt. It seems like bucks are already in the dreaded lockdown phase here

Yall pray for me....I'm hunting a mature buck we had on camera we call "The Prince"....he's a for-sure shoulder mount.
My wife said I worry about my friends and guests killing bucks before myself...havent killed one in almost three years.
She told me to go kill him tonight.
He was on camera last night with a hot doe around 1:30am

Thankfully no one ever shot me while I was trying and failing to hook up with a chick

Lockdown is full swing in SWMS/NELA, small bucks on the feed during daylight and does/bigger bucks at night. The first rut hit hard 12/25-1/1 which correlates dead on with the moon/estrus. So if I were wanting to take PTO it would be starting next monday with the second estrus moon coming on. Some of the best chasing I've seen in years was Christmas, that usually means not many of the herd came in, so next week should have plenty of maiden does coming in that are dumber than the queens.

Wish this site had a pm feature!
Yes I hunt Nat Forest around there also a large club to the east and north of you behind those homes to the east (right side of hwy).

Can you be more specific as to where in SWMS? I’m between Centreville and Woodville and did not see chasing around Christmas.

Not so fast
Just had one chase a doe across the field at 3 oclock in Claiborne county.
Saw a doe cross the creek Saturday am, tail was flying high.
Few minutes later, a buck crossed the creek after her.

I agree and it’s just getting started

Now I’m wondering why it’s so late this year! The rut always kicks in at my place right after Christmas and is usually fading by this point in time. That’s even been true when the temps were in the 70’s (although all of the activity was nocturnal.)
