Have any of you guys ever had/having problems with the pine beetle?

Alabama foresters feared that 2017 would be a bad year for the Southern pine beetle, and dire predictions of large stands of pine trees killed by the tiny pest appear to be coming true. Aerial surveys performed by the Alabama Forestry Commission identified 2,086 Southern pine beetle "spots," or patches of dead trees that were most likely killed by the beetles. The identified spots are spread widely through the Black Belt region and with several infestations discovered in Winston County in northeast Alabama.

They were a huge problem in the early to mid 80's in North LA. Surprisingly haven't been much of a problem since. Ips beetles were pretty bad during the bad drought we had in 2011 and 2012. A real Southern Pine Beetle outbreak is the last thing the timber industry needs right now. At least in the 80's the mill capacity was there to salvage some of the timber, not the case now.

Thin the trees and burn like hell. It might not help the pines, but the quail will like the result...

It is always fun to do a prescribed burn. Just need to make sure to get all tree stands out first

There are a few out break points here in central Louisiana. Best is to remove the dead trees ASAP and do a control burn. Mills will not take the logs even though they are still good for lumber.

Anything that can wipe out a bunch of pine trees is fine with me

Timber companies these days are leaving ecological deserts behind. It's so frustrating leasing from them watching them kill all the native vegetation and spray the big oaks and leave them standing,

Reckon it's to keep you from hauling them/spreading the beetles? Blue stain is desire able in some instances

Sure is. People are paying 3x the normal price for it.
