Anybody having any luck on late afternoon trips to Basin ?

I've been limiting out on bass almost very trip (plus usually catching 12-15 sac-a-lait & goggle eyes), but only catching bass between daylight and 9 a.m. (By 9:30 or 10:00 it gets really tough. Catching a few more scattered perch if I fish until noon or 1 p.m.)

I can't think of an area around Pigeon or Sorrel that will produce as the day gets even hotter. I've been asked to take a cancer patient who can only go after 1 p.m., and only wants to fish for bass. I've tried to explain how hot it gets and how slow the fishing gets, but he still wants to go.

Maybe I'm just a lousy fisherman. Been fishing the Spillway for 30 years, but not in the late afternoons.

Good thing end of August and Sept will be here soon. Just say hey can you wait a few weeks so it cools off alittle.

That when the bass school up in the back of canals along with the scaliat.

What were you fishing with -- and where did you launch (of you don't mind sharing this info)?

don't mind sharing at all, there's plenty of fish to go around. i've been swimming flukes on the bottom and the color hasn't mattered too much bc the fish are/were just plain feeding. also did well on shallow running crankbaits. flukes seemed to produced a little bigger fish.
i fished the falling water from sorrell to pigeon, following the falling water. it's now starting to rise but it isn't gona be much or last long. give it about another week or 2 to start falling again.

and who in the hell down voted me?
(edited for typos)

Probably the same person who down-voted me.

Thanks for the info. I don't think there's too much of a rise to deal with.

I've been fishing Sorrel/Pigeon for the last few months - on most trips lately I had to try really hard to NOT get a limit of bass. (I dump the bass in our subdivision lake, and try to put some sacs in the freezer).

I have a camp at Pigeon - had one there since the mid 1980's. Fished the Belle River area at night a few times but haven't ever tried to plan an "afternoon" trip in this kind of heat.

Thanks again for responding. Hope you don't get any more down votes.

I would just say wait until it cools off a little for his sake.

Cancer patient and his counts could be off.
This person may not be able to take the heat as well depending on the type of chemo if they had any.

Middle to late sept they could probably go out when it is slightly cooler and enjoy the trip alittle better.
