Are you saying people don't change the oil in a motocross bike? I change mine every 3 hours of run time or after a race. Most people I know do about the same.
Negative.
I'm saying you can leave one of the rings off during reassembly. This will cause it to burn maybe a quart of oil every twemty hours of run time. It will also rev even faster.
Kind of like running xylene in your fuel to make your gas burn more completely and then having to run 100:1 ratio of 2 stroke oil to stop your intake valves from siezing. Little tricks to get infintesimally small amounts of extra power.
I bet they are doing this with the mower. Not for power, but to increase oil consumption slightly so you can merely add a little fresh oil once or twice a year.
I predict A LOT of blown motors.

I don't think I'd ever changed oil in my 4 year old push mower...I just add a little big of new stuff every year and wish it well

It literally takes 5 minutes every 2 years to change the oil.
It takes me 0 minutes every never years. I have once changed the oil in a lawnmower. And it was one that wasn't running that I found in a shed of a house I bought. I got a new blade, chord, oil, speark plug, etc. and fiddled with it until I got it running. Once it was up and running, never thought to change it again and never had problems. Never had any engine problems with any mower ever after years of use. For the $200 (self propelled not included) it takes to buy another one, and the fact that you can go 5 years and not worry about oil, it's probably going to ha e enough other stuff wrong with it to justify buying a new one before changing the oil.
