2009 6.6 lmm issue cranking then dies (last post update)Posted by FelicianaTigerfan

Truck has been hard to start lately ( not cold weather issue). Turns over a bunch before starting. Have tried cycling glow plugs as a test before trying to start it. Works some times, other times it doesn't. Some times if its been parked for more than a day, when it cranks itll idle rough then die. After that it will just turn over for a very long time before eventually starting. To fix that ive been pumping the primer to cycle the diesel. Again, seems to work most times. The fuel filter is pretty new and I recently ran injector cleaner through it.
Curious on any other tricks I can try like maybe more injector cleaner, replace injectors, glow plugs, etc? Also looking for suggestions on a good diesel shop Baton Rouge Zachary area

Change or rebuild the fuel filter housing
That's the Shiney silver housing your filter attaches to...also has primer attached

When I had an 08 I had to replace the water in fuel housing. It developed a crack and was sucking some air causing hard then eventually no starts.

Just bought one. Seems to be an easy part to change out. Will do that this weekend and hope it works

Are you parked on a slight incline with less than half tank of fuel by chance? Sounds like you're losing fuel prime.

Have noticed that if I leave my truck on an incline it’s worse. Had that issue Sunday but had 3/4 tank

Replaced the fuel filter housing with the primer. Wasn’t a bad job. The whole assembly with filter was $170 from local GM dealer. After bleeding and priming it was still slow to start. Kinda worried me. Drove about 10 miles and made a hunt. After the hunt it fired up fine. Sat overnight and this morning I didn’t cycle the glow plugs or anything special and it fired right up. Pretty sure the issue is fixed. Thanks for suggestions. Oh and btw it’s an 09 2500HD with 240k miles on it.
