As speed increases, wet traction is considerably reduced. Since hydroplaning can result in a complete loss of traction and vehicle control, you should always reduce speed when raining..

Reduce speed.

ETA: Let me reiterate that I feel terrible for all parties, not just the victims, but considering the fact that countless other cars were able to make it past without flying off the road, I refuse to believe there was NOTHING she could have done.

maintain control of your vehicle also...i know they go hand in hand but she lost control for whatever reason so even though it is an accident it is still her fault.

Sandifer said. Troopers do not know what caused Taylor to run off the road.

The speed limit being 55 is not the problem on Bluff. The problem is no one goes 55 on Bluff. They've overlaid the road several times and there is no shoulder, so a couple inches right and your tire drops 5-6" and first reaction is to jerk back, often times causing over correction. I've pulled a few people out of upside down cars in my yard because of this.

My mom was first on the scene last year when the lady did the same last year killing her and her infant with her, less than a 1/4 mile from that exact spot.

:kige:

You go off the pavement you in trouble a lot of places on Bluff and it's just unfortunate that the lady who hit them did it in probably the absolute worst place on the whole damn road to do it.

It had JUST began to rain, and she hydro planed in a very sharp curve.
Aside from ice, that is when roads are slickest. Hot and humid then RIGHT after rain.

Some states and municipalities have laws regarding the conditions. Pretty sure going the posted speed limit in bad conditions will get you a ticket here, should you get in an accident.

Can't imagine losing a child that way. I've got a real soft hear when it comes to small children.

not passing judgment bc I don't know that area, but my kids are not fishing within 10 yds of a 55mph highway.

Article said 1 to 200 ft. so I'm going to guess 50 yards but I don't know the area either.

I'm with you. As a father of 2 little ones, I can't imagine how devastating this would be.

The entire thing is sad, very very sad.

I feel for the driver but she lost control of her vehicle regardless of why.

and the parents of young children having them fish with their backs to State Hwy with posted speed limit of 55 is crazy. There are many documented cases of drivers getting target fixation and actually steering into people and vehicles on the side of the road.

Please keep all persons on the side of high speed roads as far from the white line as possible. This includes when you are broke down. Get people out of the vehicle and away 3-4 lane widths away from the edge of the road. The 10-20 feet represented in the photo is just too close.
