The 17 Hornet might still make it w/ support from handloaders; the 17 WSM cannot be handloaded. OTOH, generally speaking 17 caliber centerfire rounds haven't done all that well. The 17 Hornet is also competing against the 17 Rem and the 17 Rem Fireball. If the 17 WSM ammo price comes in close to the 17 HMR, the WSM should do good. It would be a good round for ground squirrels, prairie dogs and short range coyotes/foxes.
