other countries like basketball but can’t compete with the US.
Yeah this really is the case.
The game is only 10 mins. That's just a 1st quarter in regular hoops. Most of the time games are pretty close in the beginning in any sport. Because depth, fatigue really isn't a problem that affects speed, ability to get good shots etc. So if you come out and miss your first couple shots and the other team is hot its almost impossible to comeback. Not enough time to go on a run.
So they can compete in a 3 on 3, 1 quarter game without the top us players vs a full 5 on 5 game with 4 quarters with a real bench.

The Big 3 league is full of washed up 40 year olds that played in the NBA in the early 2000s. They would get smoked by the Euro sqauds.
Joe Johnson and pick any other 2 dudes would easily win gold.
Micheal Beasley is tearing it up in the Big3.
I"m pretty sure 35 year old Beasley is a hell of a lot better than some 6'7" 34 year old dude from Princeton that averaged 8 and 4 13 years ago.
Iso Joe, Jason Richardson and Beasley would bring home the gold. And they aren't doing anything else other than playing Big3
