states that 3 of the 4 vents on the cap are to remain open. if closed the additional pressure could blow the cap off. oil is pouring out of these vents. BP stated earlier in the week that by monday or tuesday of next week the leak will be down to a "trickle". how can this be if the vents are not closed?

They are attaching more shite to the cap to regulate pressure and capture more oil

My understanding is they need more production facility equipment on top. They are getting way more oil and gas than was expected and can not put any pressure on the well or cap so they have to bleed it off. They are putting more processing equipment on top to handle more oil and gas and should have it up and running by Monday or Tuesday. They have to take it slow and safe to keep from another big explosion...

Best description of the process I've heard.

They are going to reverse the valves on the device (don't know its name) that was used to send drilling mud into the well. The oil that comes out will be sent to a burner on the surface. This draws oil from below the cap and reduces the pressure on it.
