I agree with Righteous except for the descriptors.

This is true. This past year was the first shrimp season for the area affected by the Exxon Valdez spill. 11 years for the shrimp to come back.

You really can't compare the two spills or the two habitats.

Saying one year from now all will be normal is a statement that could classify a person as INSANE!

Bottom line on this is WE, the taxpayer, is gonna suffer the most with higher pricing on everything from gas to food in our restaraunts! THis will cause everything associated with the GOM to go up in price.

What you have to ask yourself is what do shrimp eat? this is where the food chain starts and those things, algae plankton etc, are what are being killed. The food chain starts at microscopic levels and those organisms are being killed.

The water and beaches and any other cosmetic stuff will be fine rather quickly, but the effects of this spill will change us forever and some things will NEVER be the same.

THis will crush the local commercial seafood industry this year and for years to come. Many will have to switch to other forms of income. Oysters could be devestated. There are important coral reef situations that are critical to food chains that are in trouble.

What happens to the oil that they are spraying with dispersants? I'll tell you, it sinks to the bottom!!! For how many years and where will this all eventually wash up? Cause it will go somewhere eventually.

IT IS STILL LEAKING AND COULD GET WORSE.

LSUSaint, thank you for educating some of the other posters. The Oil industry is trying to low key this as much as possible.
They have no clue how to fix the leak. They are doing the same thing Toyota has done. Don't invest millions into a preventable solution while making Billions of dollars each year, wait till there is a disaster and spend the money then.

Do you realize that the composition of the oil is different?

Please google Bay of Campeche oil disaster....much much larger than this spill, or even the Valdez spill and almost no ill effects occurred following clean-up. The only remaining ecological reminder is a small amount of tar balls washing up on South Padre Island. But don't let that get in the way of your fear mongering.
