I was wondering. They have great scientist and engineers, I was wondering if they were involved with possible solutions.

Not sure, but I know that they study high pressure fluid dynamics, and this is a case study for how to mine on (other!) planets.
Well, maybe what not to do also...

Uh....he may have not cut the "space program"...but he cut the means of Manned Space Flight as we know it...unless you call relying on Mother Russia to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS a valid and totally viable means of transportation for the US....

Probably not much. It's actually the other way around. Oceaneering who's an ROV contractor on this job, is also a NASA contractor. They design and build robot arms and tooling for the space program.
