you are looking at the lmrp (upper section of the bop
I hate to do this, but google hasn't helped. This mud/cement they are pumping, is it some special kind that will "set" even though it's underwater, or will the "junk" blown on top (if that happens) just hold it in place and it remains in liquid form?

When will we know if its working or not? Thanks
Posted on 5/26/10 at 3:09 pm to theDORSEY72
I had heard on the radio that it could take as much as a few days to know if it has worked. However if they are pumping now and we see no leaks I'de say thats a good thing. I wish we could also see the broken/spewing riser at the same time

Where are all of the crazy fish with no eyes and/or those light bulbs that hang off of them to attract other fish for them to eat? Are those children's books I read wrong? WTF!

Thank You Co for sharing the contact info. Keep it coming!

dup, a couple of questions:
What is the "cross section" of this well below the wellhead/bop? As I understand it it would be a large (30") steel casing cemented into the bore that the drill bit made. and whatever may be left of the drill stem inside the casing
Is the mud being pumed into this casing? That would mean they are trying to get the mud to go down the casing while the oil is shooting up the casing nesct pas?

it's looks like it's leaking now - wisps of oil right where the kill or choke line is entering the LMRP.

there's 36" conductor casing that's jetted into the mud to a depth of ~300' w/ ~12' of it left sticking up above the mudline. the top of this w/ the various profiles in it is called the low pressure housing.
there's a string of 28" which is cemented inside of the 36" and is landed in a special profile inside the low pressure housing.
beneath that is a string of 22" casing. The top of the 22" is the high pressure housing -- the wellhead -- that's designed to handle high pressure. it's usually machined from a solid 27" or 30" mandrel and has an 18 3/4" ID. It has profiles on the inside of it to land other hanger (like the 9 7/8" x 7" casing hanger) and it has a profile cut on the outside of it for the BOP to latch onto it.

Was wondering the same thing.....Didn't want to ask because it seems to way to serious in this thread. I keep waiting for some big eel or something to swim right at the camera! (For all you uptight ones, I'm kidding)
