Leak may not stop for weeks or more...

A remote-controlled submarine shot a chemical dispersant into the maw of a massive undersea oil leak Monday, further evidence that authorities expect the gusher to keep erupting into the Gulf of Mexico for weeks or more.
Crews using the deep-sea robot attempted to thin the oil-which is rushing up from the seabed at a pace of about 210,000 gallons per day-after getting approval from the Environmental Protection Agency, BP spokesman Mark Proegler told The Associated Press.
The agency had halted two previous rounds of the dispersant to test its potential impact on the environment, and approved a third round of spraying that began early Monday, Proegler said. An EPA spokeswoman didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.

I readily admit that I jumped the gun on initial reports two weeks ago and made some pretty over the top comments (we will be affected for decades, etc.).
With that being said and for fear of jumping the gun again, someone please explain to me what all of this is going to lead to.
We know:
- Oil has been leaking for what, almost three weeks now?
- The one measure that people were fairly certain would work (containment box) did not work.
- The next "sure thing" is actually drilling to stop the leak and that is perhaps three months away.
- The junk shot could actually make things much worse.

It's good to see someone actually admit they jumped the gun when this first started.
I'll hit on the topics I can, but there's other people with more experience and knowledge, and will probably give a bit more depth than me.
I have not read where they stopped trying this method. I know they were pulling the dome up to get it into warmer waters, and were also coming up with methods to still use the dome, and come up with a way to counteract the ice crystals forming. I haven't kept up with the news for a couple days, so if something was posted saying they'd given up that method, I am not aware of it. As far as I know, it's still in progress.
Unless there's another way to stop the leak before then, the relief well/wells are the next best option. They are making great progress so far, as far as the mob goes and getting everything lined up.
There's always the possibility, unfortunately.

they put concrete into the downhole casing right so why not do the same process into the BOP. Doesnt that stuff dry in a matter of hours. Force so much concrete that sooner or later it will harder at some level and stop the leak.
