but they were a little late to the party, IMO
What would be any differnt if they would have showed up a few days early?

We should've been burning the damn oil the very next day
You do realize that when they burn the oil they can only burn a little bit at a time? When they burned it they could only burn 2% of the oil in the GOM at that time.
Burning it was just a PR move, everyone knew that wasnt going to make a difference, The issue at hand is stopping the leak, not the clean up. Not sure how the government fits into all of this.
Guess you an I have different views on life.

WTF do you not understand about having some sort of preventative plan in place? The government is at least somewhat responsible for the devastation after the rig went down.
Not sure how you could possibly disagree.

me too, but sadly it's not possible.
Nice of you to want to save the rest of us, but we're all SEC on this. The non Gulf/Atlantic states have their own worries right now with the flooding.

I'm lost...Is it the gov fault for being late the party or is it the gov fault for not regulating BP?

BP TOLD THEM TO BLOW UP THAT RIG AND CAUSE ONE OF THE BIGGEST ECOLOGICAL DISASTERS ON RECORD IN THE GULF AND YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE CAUSE BP IS A BIG COMPANY AND THEY AREN'T LOOKING OUT FOR LITTLE PEOPLE OR FISH OR SHRIMP OR KELP OR DOLPHINS OR CUDDLY OCTOPI.
I like people that actually get what message boards are for.

Have you not been reading my posts? Both.
The DoHS waited too damn to declare that the incident was “a spill of national significance."
They waited too long to request DoD assistance = late to the party.

How many miles inland does the fishing ban go??

Jesus fricking Christ. We are such a national of fricking pussies. Everybody in this thread is fricking whining and bitching about who should have done what and when, and how momma should have been there to wipe our butts for us.
fricking pussies. shite happens.
fricking pussies. shite happens.

So why not put a red line through the American Flag? Why the hate for BP.
You never did answer my question. What would be any different if the gov would have showed up when you say they should have?

You're obviously just arguing to argue now. There should have been a plan in place for a situation like this, because as Longbaugh so eloquently put it, "shite happens." No one is denying that shite happens, but preparation for something as potentially catastrophic as this would seem to make sense to me. This of course is JMO.

It's the North Korean's fault for torpedoing the rig then blowing themselves up under it later.

It's hard to plan for something like this, especially since it's never happened. I think everyone is doing the best they can, but I understand that some people expect more but what more could be done? What could have been done different and by whom?? These are the 10,000,000,000 dollar questions that no one can answer.

Cocodrie Is open and I am going fishing this week, before it gets slammed!

I didn't know NOAA had that much authority
Looking at the map that was attached to an e-mail I got from the CCA, only Federal waters are closed (outside the Chandeliers for instance). I don't think that the Federales can close state waters-remember that one of the reasons our red snapper season was shortened was that Texas and Florida opted not to close their state waters for snapper fishing at the Feds request, meaning the quota was caught faster. So, from what I read, unless DWF closes the inshore areas, they are still open in Shell Beach/Hopedale and the near shore waters in Mississippi and Alabama. Now running your outboard through water that might have oil......good luck with that.

In a little over 2 weeks I'm supposed to fish down in Grand Isle. Will I be able to fish? Can somebody answer me?
