Life is over for the 11 men that died so STFU. If the leak is stopped monday there will be little longterm effect. If it goes till the relief wells are drilled yes it will be catastrophic but guess what, at least the ppl you are talking about will still be alive. Displaced and having to find another line of work but alive and with there families. And as for the person who said he cares more about the fricking birds than those who did die. You need to take a long look in the mirror you piece of shite.

you need to go back an read the thread. No one is talking about the 11 men or their families. I think we all understand that the pain those families are feeling are far worse than any pain anyone getting a little oil on their shrimp boots are feeling.

Honestly, i also care much less about the 11 workers than i do about the potential forward reaching impact on the gulf, it's animal species, and the coastal eco system.

Well tell that to this guy.

Well I was on a charter in delacriox this morning and work in Breton Sound and Main Pass. No oil this morning but a ton of fish. And have only seen a light sheen while offshore. Yes if it goes for another 2-3 months there will be devastation but if its caped tomorrow, hoped to God it is, there will be little long term affects. The media has over played and dramatized this alot.

Well, 75% of all charters this summer have already been cancelled. This alone is catastrophic, but is only the beginning of the ripple effect that is taking place.

Would you trade your heritage, your culture for a job working for an oil company? That may be the choice many are faced with.

And they are going to be compensated. So if its stopped tomorrow then all this drama will be much overplayed.

I have a cousin and 2 close friends that run charters so trust me i know what u are getting at. But there are getting paid to help and will be compensated on top of it so like its been said lets see how it plays out before freaking out.

More oil than Valdez. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals dumped into the GOM. You don't have to be a genius to know how this is going to end and it is not good.

I think you need a break from watching TV. Try reading a book or something.

Ignoring reality does not make it any less real. If this stopped right now, it would not be ok.

i don't believe the choice is mutually exclusive. i'm from lafourche parish, and a large % of the guys i went to school w/ followed their dads into the oilfield.

a large percentage of the people i've worked w/ throughout my career are 2nd and 3rd generation oilfield, w/ especially high concetrations of cajuns and rednecks from miss / NLa; w/ most of them being avid outdoorsmen regardless of their address.

But what if that is the reality in the future? God help us all if we are faced with that.
