How old? In my experience, nothing is gonna outperform the marucci cat bats.

If he's in Dixie youth or little league he has to use a USA Baseball approved bat. In that case, just buy whatever he thinks looks cool bc there's no such thing as a USA bat with pop. They're all deadened to meet safety standards.

The CAT series is really great bang for you buck in the alloy, the composite 8 sucked and so did the 7 so I wouldn’t expect much with the 9. As mentioned also the Zens are a great hot one too. Almost every company is going to have one bat that really outshines the rest, a lot of the high schools really like the 5150 but for younger kids the combats can be great and cover up some bad swings because the barrel and sweet spot are just enormous they almost look like big barrel softball bats

He’s 10. Hits for power in the 3/4 hole

All the assholes making fun of this post can suck it. It’s a gift for a baseball loving kid who wants nothing for his birthday. God forbid I can afford to buy him something nice. SMH

You got a lot of unanswered questions.

Is he a power hitter?
Is he more of an on base percentage guy?
Does he hit switch?
Have you measured his swing speed thru the zone?
Is he an opposite field hitter or does he love the power ally?
Are his hands quick? Can he hit a curveball?
Is he being recruited for the 10 year all star team?

What does his private baseball academy instructor recommend? I mean you pay the guy that stopped playing at high school ball to be his coach don't you?

Whatever you do don't mess this up. Everybody knows a 10 year old has to have the best equipment to reach their potential. Disregard all the big league Latino players who grew up with shite equipment, they just got lucky.

Don't make a mistake, maybe buy both so he can hit based on the situation and flow of the youth select travel ball game.

Lastly, Im just messing with you because I still think the travel ball jokes are funny even if they are played out. It's a good thing to buy your boy a bat for his birthday. Good luck with your choice.

If USSSA, nothing beats a DeMarini CF Zen. However, it will break, so keep the receipt for warranty replacement. Also love the Combat Maxum (now aka Combat B2; Easton Maxum is essentially the same bat) and DeMarini Voodoo (composite/alloy hybrid).

If BBCOR, Louisville Slugger Meta is best bat I have seen.

Composite provides more pop and a bigger sweet spot, but balls hit off end or near hands go nowhere and sound terrible. As bat speed increases, the difference b/w composite and alloy decreases - older players (HS varsity and college) usually prefer alloy. I live in the north and have had no problem with composite bats in cold weather.

Genuine 1983 Easton. Back when you had to produce power, not buy it.

Marruci makes good bats, my son complained they had a little sting in them. Composite bats are good, but once they broke in have him use a wood bat in practice and in the cage. By the way, my son played in several wood bat only tournament's, just as many homer were hit there as a regular tournament for us.

Hard to beat the Marucci trade-in offer if you are trading in an older bat.
