It's too late. If the U.S. wants to do this, they would have to start 100+ years in advance. But even then, there are wayyyy too many out there already. Maybe in the 1800's.

The fact we took an oath to protect and serve our country/community stops us from doing that. Most importantly, the fact we aren't evil prevents us from doing that. We've got better guns than you anyway...

I feel like the reading comprehension of the OT has gone down hill lately. Is it too hot outside?
Let me state this very clearly: I am not advocating that the US outlaw all guns. I recognize that people still break the law. I pointed out that even if guns were banned, a black market would continue to exist in the US for criminals to obtain fire arms.

How many AR-15 knockoffs have killed police officers versus handguns? Serious question.
For the record I do not own a gun. I do not care to have one in my house. But I certainly believe the day you take guns away from the people that do not break the laws is the day that this country will self destruct.

I don't think the idea is too far off. If you stop the manufacture of guns, but keep possession legal, the number of guns available to all will decrease. The US is the leading manufacturer of guns in the world. How will the average criminal get his guns if the market supply dries up?
I do think police are trigger happy because of the threat they perceive. If they think the perp they are approaching isn't armed, the interaction tends to go a little better.

I kind of disagree. An armed populace does deter an overly aggressive government to a degree. That's what I think is the idea behind the 2nd ammendment. That and the basic right to self protection.
