When I do dumbell flys, I have some discomfort in my rotator cuffs and a sort of clicking sensation. Anybody else deal with this? Is it a form issue?

I don't know, but I find the manner in which you asked your question to be very polite. I truly hope you find your answer.

At what point are you experiencing the discomfort? Is it while you are bringing the dumbbells back together during the concentric portion of the movement or as you are bringing them out during the eccentric half?

Are you doing them on a flat bench or an incline?

Does this only occur during dumbbell flys or other chest-related movements?

There are a number of factors to consider.

I do 2x-3x yoga/week to combat that pain.

It gets worse if I overdo with Dumbbells, the motion of thigh, strait out to shoulder.

It also gets worse if I do nothing. But the yoga makes it very manageable over time.

I can tell you what cured these issues for me. Trying doing internal and external rotations on the cable machine. I did them before every workout as a warmup until I built strength and now just do them before chest. I do 25 reps light weight for each arm and type of rotation. Video recommends doing them after workout but telling you what worked for me.

I get it at times. Try using lighter weight. My shoulder used to pop out of place all the time as a kid so I know why mine hurts.

Dumbbell flys has one of the most worthless exercises imo. You're getting no resistance throughout most of the movement. Just use the fly machine

Get it looked at. It was a bone spur for me, got lucky nothing was torn.

I had the same problem several years ago when I was a gym rat, and thought it was my rotator cuff. Went and saw a specialist and find out my labrum was torn.

Surgery has gotten pretty sophisticated recently, but the recovery still requires a sling for about six weeks. So I elected to not have surgery and have just been really cautious with the activities I do so I don't agitate it or tear it even more.

bullshite.

The free range of motion for dumbbell flys affords the greatest stretch in both the pec major and pec minor muscle tissue while also allowing a phenomenal contraction of both muscles. The is no other movement or piece of equipment that can simulate this path of resistance. Pec decks and fly machines operate within a primarily horizontal plane. While they allow medial rotation of the humerus, neither accounts for the inferior and superior movement necessary to maximize the extension in the muscle fibers.

They are not worthless in the least bit. Are they risky for some people? Yes. Some guys don't check their egos at the door and decide to load up on weight like they're doing presses. If you hyperextend at the shoulder joint then you could have some major issues.

By the way, you need to spend little more time when posting a picture for our troubles.

That first picture could have gone from a 6 to a 9 if her hands were moved out of the way....it's the small things bro.

Just curious, were you or were you not in a substantial amount of pain with that particular injury?

I wouldn't expect the OP's particular description of discomfort if his labrum was indeed torn.

If it hurts when you do that, don't do that.

The pain was not excruciating, but it just lingered and lingered, and would not go away for days. It was very bothersome and sometimes woke me up at night if I turned over on it.

That's also how I found out that I was allergic to Vicodin.

Interesting. I've had some ongoing issues with my left shoulder, but I'm not sure if there is any structural damage as of yet.

Certain exercises really seem to bother it, and for me it's just an ongoing tightness on the anterior surface.

It certainly pops and catches if I rotate in particular directions.

My MRI involved them numbing up my shoulder and sticking a big needle into the middle of my rotator cuff, inject some dye.

This was about seven or eight years ago, so they may have changed the procedure since then but when I saw that big needle, I almost passed out. Numbing shot did the trick I didn't feel anything but a little awkward pressure.
