We’re gonna need to know more about that

I’m 47 dad is 79. He was diagnosed with colon cancer but has a very favorable chance to beat it.
Was over at his house today. He still tells me when I’m not doing something right (wrong wrench, wrong tool, you should do it thus way, etc…..but he taught me near about everything I know about welding, working on small engines, running farm equipment (mostly tractors), carpentry, shooting guns, and how to be a proud American (USAF 1967-1974).
Unfortunately one grandfather died when my dad was only 21 and my maternal grandfather died when I was 6.
Everything I’ve ever done wrong or stupid in life my dad told me don’t do that, better not do that, or it’s gonna come back to bite you in the arse.
I can’t imagine life without my dad but I know one day I’ll get that call and my life will change forever on that day

My 15 year old daughter gave me that for Father’s Day. Some of the questions are very interesting.
Thought about how my old man would have answered. Been gone 10 years now.

About my father and the fact that I would love to be able to go back and tell him I finally understand where he was coming from. And I would like to have acknowledge what an a-hole I’ve had been and the he was right about a lot of things.
In the end, every parent knows this (except maybe the OTer who currently has a psychotic teenage girl). Every parent has been a child and knows as long as they are not actually abused they love their parents even when they are rebelling and acting like a shite. That lasts longer in life for some relationships than others but I pretty much guarantee he knew that when he passed.

Upvote.
When I was 17 I was convinced I would become a millionaire and never talk to my dad. By the time I was 18 I was convinced I wanted to be just like him. Great, honorable, honest man. People tell me I sound more and more like him as time goes on. The world won't make sense without him in it, I've selfishly told others that i hope I pass before he does.

My dads 71..still around and kicking. He has taught me a lot in my 53 years. Working on cars, carpentry skills, fishing and how to milk a cow among other things. He missed a lot because he worked a lot of O.T to give us what we had. We didn't have a lot but during the 70's a kid didn't need a lot of things to make them happy. We had our "Flash light" moments. Helping him bleed the brakes still stands out in my mind as one of the worst experiences from my youth but it didn't kill me so its OK. My teenage years things were rough, Rebellious teen and he was trying to keep me in line, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. Mom bought us a Pontoon last year. We've been working on it for a few months now and she's finally ready to take out on the lake. Hope we have lots of days left to get out on the water to make up for time lost
